This non-profit community project is located in an archaeological and culturally treasured valley that has long been recognized as a sanctuary of healing. In 1904 Japanese immigrants built 88 shrines replicating the ancient pilgrimage of 88 temples in Shikoki, Japan. The Lawai International Center represents one of the oldest Buddhist temple sites in the country and the only site existing outside of Japan. Volunteers tend to the shrines and valley as a center for compassion and cultural understanding. Visit http://www.lawaicenter.org/ for tours and hours of operation.
