The Fresh Shave takes action to eliminate single-use plastics

The Fresh Shave on Kauai eliminates single-use plastics
(KAUAI, HI, March 19, 2018) — Hawaii-based handcrafted shave ice company, The Fresh Shave, has taken yet another step toward becoming environmentally friendly. The company has been serving paper cups and wooden spoons since 2014, and on Monday, they will eliminate the use of all single-use plastics with the addition of paper straws starting with their original location on Kauai.
The Fresh Shave has made environmentally conscious practices a priority and built this focus into the company core values. In 2017, The Fresh Shave was designated a Platinum Level Ocean Friendly Restaurant by the Surfrider Foundation. “The Fresh Shave believes in doing our part to help protect our environment,” claims co-owner, Priscilla Soule. “As the company grows, achieving a plastic-free customer experience has been an important goal of ours.”
After months of research and testing, the owners selected a paper straw made in the United States from sustainably-managed forests. The Fresh Shave expects to substitute nearly 36,000 plastic straws per year in Kauai alone.
