PERSONAL SAFETY
Many of Kauai’s South Shore visitors are so enamored by its beauty, and so happy to be on vacation that they tend to let their guard down and forget to practice basic travel safety. All of Poipu Beach’s visitors need to be just as conscious about safety and security as they are at home:
Do not leave anything of value unattended or in plain sight anywhere, including in your car, on the beach, in restaurants or lobbies, even for a minute. If you must carry valuables with you, lock them in the trunk before arriving at your destination.
Whenever possible, leave valuables or important items in your room or hotel safe.
Lock doors and windows in your room at night, or anytime you are not there.
Carry mostly travelers checks and very little cash. Travelers checks are replaceable, cash is not.
CIVIL DEFENSE WARNINGS
The state Civil Defense has developed a warning system to alert the public of an emergency. If you hear the Civil Defense sirens (a steady siren tone for 3 minutes, repeated as necessary), listen to your radio for emergency information and instructions broadcast by Civil Defense. Take necessary action.
Watches and warnings are prepared for the Hawaiian Islands by the National Weather Service Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu. When watches and warnings are issued, people should closely monitor radio, TV or NOAA Weather Radio for official bulletins of the event’s progress and instructions from civil defense authorities.

SMOKING REGULATIONS IN HAWAII
On November 16, 2006, Hawaii became the 14th state to implement a comprehensive statewide law prohibiting smoking in all enclosed or partially enclosed places of employment as well as places open to the public. Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed or partially enclosed buildings and vehicles owned, leased, or operated by the State or any County, including all airports from the curb to the cabin.

AGRICULTURAL FORMS
The State of Hawaii Department of Agriculture requires passengers arriving with plants, animals, and any agricultural materials to declare them on the Agricultural Declaration Form distributed aboard your flight to Hawaii.
Plant quarantine inspectors are stationed in the baggage claim area to examine all agricultural items.
